WB8TKL's HamGate Pages

HamGate

A HamGate is a gateway between the Internet and the AMPRNet (Amateur Packet Radio Network). This provides a way for Amateur Packet Radio traffic to traverse from one part of the country, or the world, to another quickly and efficiently. This is particularly convenient when very few RF paths exist for long haul networking.

The HamGate that I operate is located at my home in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and is used primarily with the Michigan AMPRnet (AMateur Packet Radio network).

To access the HamGate from the Internet, telnet to ampr.nuge.com. You may sign on as 'anonymous' with 'guest' as your password. This will allow you limited priveledges but will allow you an opportunity to get the feel of the system. You will not be able to access any of the radio ports nor will you be allowed to send mail to anyone but the SYSOP. If you are a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, and want full priveledges when you access the HamGate via the Internet, then send me an email at jjn@nuge.com. I will verify that you are indeed licensed and will set up a user account for you.

To access the HamGate via Amateur Radio, issue a 1200 baud AX.25 connect on 145.76 MHz to WB8TKL-3 or -4 or to its alias YPSI. Once connected via Amateur Radio you will be granted full priveledges to all services including routing yourself to any number of other Amateur TCP/IP HamGates/servers/routers both via RF and Internet routes.

You may also access the HamGate via TCP/IP over the air. Issue a Telnet to Hamgate.Washtenaw.ampr.org (44.102.1.1) from within the AMPRnet network and you should get connected (always dependent upon all the nodes between you and me having been properly configured).

JNOS2.x full system on a bootable floppy

The following is a DD disk image of a bootable DOS6.22 floppy, containing DOS EDIT, the full directory tree needed to run JNOS, and a compiled NOS.EXE that supports all the functions of a full-blown HamGate. Edit the /nos/autoexec.nos file for your callsign, IP address, and station particulars. Also edit /nos/ftpusers to add any users who will need SYSOP priveledges over the air or users who will access the JNOS box via your ethernet.
