This journey began with a conversation last November. A group of us were relaxing in Diana & Eric's living room, listening to Stan talk of his upcoming trip to China and Tibet. The Year of the Tiger was about to begin - a year of upheaval and chaos, but also a year of great opportunity, if we are prepared to seize it on a moment's notice. China had invaded Tibet during 1950 - another Tiger year. The invitation to come to Tibet this year appeared to be an auspicious sign of an opening. I knew immediately that I needed to be a part of it

In the next few months, other invitations and events led me to see this journey in much wider terms. It quickly grew into a two-month journey across the country, around the world, and into my own soul. At one point, it appeared that I was meant to leave around the first of July, but events conspired to keep me in Michigan for another month. Eventually, though, it became clear to me that it was my own procrastination as much as anything that was demanding my attention here. I finally declared 'leaving' as a high-priority project, and made the leap July 30th, at 10:30 PM.

What follows is my journal of this journey,

There is much more to come - I'll keep writing, you come on back, y'hear?
