The HamGate that I operate is located at the Merit Network Headquarters on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Merit has provided access to one of their ethernets and the UofM has provided floorspace, power, and antenna access to the roof of the Computing Center building. We thank them imensely for all their support!
To access the HamGate from the Internet, telnet to ' hamgate.merit.edu'. You may sign on as 'anonymous' with 'guest' as your password. This will allow you limited priveledges but will allow you an opportunity to get the feel of the system. You will not be able to access any of the radio ports nor will you be allowed to send mail to anyone but the SYSOP. If you are a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, and want full priveledges when you access the HamGate via the Internet, then send me an email at JJN@MERIT.EDU. I will verify that you are indeed licensed and will set up a user account for you.
To access the HamGate via Amateur Radio, you issue a 1200 baud AX.25 connect on 145.07 MHz to WB8TKL-10 or to its alias MERIT. Once connected via Amateur Radio you will be granted full priveledges to services such as Mail, Callbook, WX, Converse, Spacelink, and Whois. You will also be able to route yourself to any number of other Amateur TCP/IP servers/routers both via RF and Internet routes.
